Alstom’s tidal devices at the European Marine Energy Centre in Orkney have generated more than 1GWh of electricity, in actual operating conditions, to the Scottish grid.
The company’s 1MW tidal turbine, deployed at the test centre in 2013, has been generating at its full nominal power since July of that year.
Previously, Alstom’s 500kW tidal stream turbine had already generated electricity into the national grid after its connection in September 2010 at the Fall of Warness.
Alstom said it has taken advantage of this experience to “improve the design of its tidal stream turbine” and now offers the Oceade 18 1.4 MW.
(Oceade 18) is ready to be deployed at a tidal energy farm which will be selected in the call for expressions of interest launched in September 2013 by the French government.
